Pedro Rodriguez Garcia
(born Málaga 1958)
At first Pedro Rodríguez’ work was exclusively pictorial, based on colour and urban themes; these works appealed to the senses and were full of symbolism. When he moved from the city of Málaga to live in nearby Coín he came face to face with rural life. His works quickly absorbed the strong light and the nature.
In this new environment Pedro became familiar with the workshops of the local ceramists in which he started, and was attracted to the world of sculpture. Using material such as potter's clay and fire clays, fired at temperatures above 1200°, he has worked hard to get close to man's most elemental means of expression.
Pedro continues to develop his business, having created in 1998 his own art gallery which has a permanent exhibition of works by local, national and international artists. Pedro Rodríguez has exhibited extensively in individual and collective exhibitions during his artistic career, and his works can be found in many private and public collections.
From the very beginning Pedro's works were distinguished by a strong streak of personality which made its mark. He creates for each sculpture its own special relationship with the real world, and their forms are full of expression; there is no sign here of a production line mentality.
